Sons of Conquest
Imperial Fists Successors
Following the third war for Armageddon, Black Templar crusader fleets chased out after the xenos and heretic forces that fled the warzone to enact vengeance upon them. When the Great Rift opened, these crusades were called upon to return and defend Imperial assets from new emerging threats. However, one such crusade fleet had ventured far into the galactic east in pursuit of it’s enemies. The crusade force that had started as elements of the Black Templar and Armageddon 404th Steel Legion, had since been joined by Imperial Fist and other wayward Imperial navy elements. The mixed force chased down an Ork raiding fleet that seemed able to slip their grasp time and time again through the warp. Finally the xenos wretches were run aground on a far flung mining world near the Chalnath Expanse. The crusade descended upon the world, smiting the remaining Orks in short order. But as they struck down the last of the greenskins, the source of their elusive warp travel was made clear. Heretic forces had been stalking the Crusade and using the Ork fleet like a lure, drawing the Imperial forces out to this remote location, using their witch powers to manipulate the warp travel of the fleets. From the depths of the mining world hordes of heretic forces swelled up, emboldened by the Great Rift, hordes of mutants and cultists assaulted the makeshift Bastions of the crusade. Void war raged in the skies above the planet as Templar, Steel Legion, and Imperial Fist forces fought an unending tide. Cut off from all support, the Crusade sold their lives dearly, exhausting resources and equipment until many were forced to fight with broken blades and bare fists. In the final defense of their last stronghold on the planet, the Emperor’s Champion Berengar held a breach in the wall wielding one of the last functioning blades from the armoury. He relentlessly held the line, scything through the hordes, allowing wounded the chance to fall back despite his own injuries. What hope his fight brought was shadowed as the foul Daemon Prince leading the heretic forces arrived at the breach to confront him. With the fleets burning in the sky, ash falling like snow from countless pyres, both sides of the conflict battered and nearly broken, all they could do was watch the confrontation in the breach. Blood, steel, and rage were traded, Berengar was stalwart but fading from countless wounds, one arm gone, his sword scarred and chipped. In a final charge he leapt, driving his relentless blade into the Daemons chest, breaking the worn blade off inside the beast's body, felling it. With broken sword held aloft he roared “the crusade never ends!”, and led a charge out into the heretic forces, driving them from the bastion and fighting until his wounds claimed him. Leaving him resting on a field of victory, his sword still clasped in his hand. The Crusade spent it’s last resources chasing down elements of the Heretics on the planet, fighting a primitive war with makeshift weapons, purging the remnants. They were a scarred and stranded cohort, their remaining ships battered and drifting in dangerous orbits until the arrival of a far flung Torchbearer fleet. The Mechanicum Adepts set to work repairing and rearming the crusade, bringing with them news of the ongoing war and new orders for the disparate parts of the fleet. Bonded by their experiences and trials the Marines and soldiers of the crusade were resistant to being parted, a new brotherhood had been forged in the fires of conflict. Being of Armageddon birth and seeing a war bound cohort of sons of Dorn, the field promoted Marshal Sigfreid Ragnvald saw an opportunity. They were a new founding, bound by oaths of brotherhood and honour. Negotiations with the Torchbearers were tense, but with the aid of the more diplomatically minded officers of the Steel Legion a consensus was reached. A new chapter was forged from the ashes of battle, taking up the icon of Berengar’s raised blade the Sons of Conquest were formed. A small but stalwart crusade fleet was salvaged from the wreckage in the void, and the Navy and Steel Legion forces remained attached to the chapter as ancillary forces, as well as a source for new Neophytes. With the reforging well underway, but not finished, a call for aid was received from the Kessandras system. Now Fleet Marshal, Ragnvald mustered his forces and set off to answer the call to war. The crusade never ends.
